Sitting next to the UNCW coaching staff on press row right now – and they’re scouting for tomorrow.  That’s the good news – they win, and we get to stay another day.

I think tonight was the best I’ve seen the Hawks look all season.  As coach Benny Moss said in the post game, they played great in all aspects of the game.  I couldn’t agree more.  They took control early in the first half on a Daniel Fountain three – followed by a Dominique Lacy three – and then it was pretty much over at that point.  A 23 point win though!?!? Still somewhat surprising.

Barring a super comeback by Northeastern - and as a Boston University grad, I hope there isn’t one – UNCW will be playing George Mason tomorrow.  UNCW beat them both times this season, but Mason is still a tough opponent.  Should be a good matchup.

Our video is almost back to Bob, so we’re heading back to the hotel to catch the end of Duke-UNC.  Dick is a big Dukie, so hopefully it will be a good night for him.  I really don’t care who wins.

A big hello to new Orange Couch reader Melissa.  Her husband Neal is here at the CAA tournament, and said she was a new fan.   So maybe the new blog is catching on.

v Delaware: game time

Back on press row… 

about thirty minutes from tip here in Richmond.   Lots of teal in the building.  As always – the UNCW fans travel well to the CAA tournament.  I expect this to be as close to a ‘home game’ as it can get, as Delware doesn’t exactly travel well.  There is the band – and that’s about it.

Watched the majority of the afternoon games today – VCU looked decent against Towson, not the overwhelming performance both Dick and I were expecting.  A closer look today showed VCU looking pretty beatable – its Maynor and not much else.   The first big upset as Old Dominion – who looked red hot before UNCW smoked them in the finals – bowed out to William & Mary.  The VCU fans were rooting against ODU, so it was fun to hear the crowd.

 

UNCW just took to the floor – doing some stretching before the game.  I’m not sure why, but I don’t have a good feeling about this one.    The majority of teams this afternoon had trouble shooting from the outside, and that’s a huge part of UNCW’s game.  Still – hopefully a big game from Vlad and Hendley can go against that.

Game Morning v Delaware

It is the morning of UNCW’s game with Delaware.  Really have no idea how tonight will play out.  I could easily see UNCW winning in a rout – but then again – it could go the other way.  I’ve never had a team that made less sense than this one.

 

A quick note on Richmond’s restaurants.  Obviously we were going the wrong way yesterday because with a little driving, we managed to find a whole host of places to eat last night.  Went with Applebee’s.  Wanted to get a good meal last night since tonight’s 6pm start means its CAA Media Buffet for dinner tonight.  We’ll see how that goes.

Off to watch some of the afternoon games.  Hoping to post before the game – but if not – I’ll be back afterwards with a recap.
